Jay Lam
Master Piano Instructor

Hi! I’m Jay Lam. I am a pianist and teacher in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I am an active soloist and accompanist with many international performances. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in music as a piano major at Utah Valley University, where I studied with Dr. Hsiang John Tu, Dr. Koji Attwood, and Dr. Hilary Demske. I hold a masters in music, piano performance degree at Louisiana State University and am currently pursuing my Doctor of musical art degree also at LSU. I study with Michael Gurt, the winner of the 1982 Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition.
Classical music has given me solace and peace during difficult times in life, particularly during my last two years of highschool when I was overwhelmed with academic work and had not decided which field of study to pursue. Choosing music as a college major meant that I would face challenges; however, piano connected me with my innermost emotions and I simply could not live without it. During my last year of high school I made the decision to leave my home country of Hong Kong and move to the United States to concentrate on my piano study.
Since moving I have studied chamber music with Dr. Cheung Chau and accompanied the vocal studio of Serena Kanig. I have also been involved with the Utah Valley University Piano Competition. I was invited to perform at the Grumo Festival in Milan and Rome, Italy, performing solo and chamber music across Europe.
I enjoy teaching students of all ages and am committed to providing them with a solid musical foundation. I teach in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese.
